The District of Columbia's new tools in the fight against drunk driving
This morning, the District of Columbia’s Mayor, Vincent Gray, signed bills into law that will aid in the fight against drunk driving. One bill sets minimum standards for breath test admissibility in court proceedings. This bill is the culmination of a two year effort to improve blood alcohol testing in Washington, D.C. The other bill will lead to increased use of ignition interlocks for DWI offenders. These bills complement legislation that went into effect in August that strengthened penalties for drunk drivers.
We applaud the Mayor, the Attorney General, the City Council, the Metropolitan Police Department, the Office of the Medical Examiner and the Department of Motor Vehicles for their leadership in fighting drunk driving in our nation’s capital.
