Choose your ride this holiday weekend
It’s America’s birthday and people are celebrating with fireworks, cookouts, baseball games, swimming and parties with friends and family. As you make your plans for the weekend be sure to include a plan for getting home safely. If you plan to include alcohol in your celebration, take mass transit, use a taxi service or designate a driver. Educate yourself on how alcohol impacts your body and your individual blood alcohol concentration at www.b4udrink.org and make a responsible choice for yourself and others.
While you are celebrating, America’s law enforcement officers are stepping up enforcement efforts across the nation to ensure safety on our roads. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility supports high visibility enforcement to stop impaired driving. These enforcement efforts convey a strong message to the driving public: If you drive drunk, you will be caught. Research shows that in order to be effective, enforcement activities must be well planned, properly executed, visible and sustained for substantial periods of time. These enforcement strategies must be complemented by aggressive, timely and complementary public information campaigns such as The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) annual campaign during the 4th of July and Labor Day holidays.
