#Responsibility on Capitol Hill for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day!
Each year, the fourth Thursday of April is one of the most exciting days of the year for us - it’s National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day! For the eighth year, the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility celebrated the day by hosting an event on Capitol Hill for Congressional staff and kids. Kids from Imagine Hope Charter School, DC Scores, and Girls Inc. joined in on the fun.
The event is the perfect opportunity to talk to both parents and kids about the importance of a lifetime of conversations about alcohol responsibility. Attendees also learned how important it is to be active and how being active helps you retain what you learn.'
Tommy McFly, Jen Richer and Kelly Collis from The Tommy Show on 94.7 Fresh FM kicked off the event and acted as the Masters of Ceremony. April Holmes, Paralympic Gold Medalist in Track and Field, and Steve Mesler, Olympic Gold Medalist in Bobsled and Co-Founder and CEO of Classroom Champions, led the crowd in a warm up activity and cheered on the kids throughout the event.
Two people who know how important it is to stay in shape, Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson of the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents, were on hand to take pictures with kids and kids at heart.
Carnival games including basketball, skeeball and football toss kept everyone moving. Attendees also got to play the Ask, Listen, Learn interactive game, the most widely-distributed game of its kind in the country. Developed for middle school-aged kids, the Ask, Listen, Learn game and program teaches the importance saying yes to healthy lifestyles and no to underage drinking. The games teaches kids about the consequences of underage drinking and provides parents with the resources to start what can seem like a daunting conversation with their kids.
